Saying filân the Gen Z way marks you as fluent in Tehrani internet register. It is the opposite of polished diaspora Persian, where you would name the thing precisely. A diaspora speaker who returns home and starts dropping filân into sentences is borrowing the local exhausted-with-it-all posture. The word also reads anti-regime by default: it refuses to give the official names of officials. Someone who says فلان آقا (felân âghâ) about a regime figure is doing more disrespect than someone who curses, because the curse acknowledges the figure exists.
