ندیده بدید (nadide bedid): “the unseen has seen.” An Iranian put-down for nouveau-riche behavior, gauche displays of new money, the cousin who got rich and cannot stop talking about it.

گربه‌ی همسایه (gorbe-ye hamsâye): “the neighbor’s cat.” The shorter cousin of the chicken-goose proverb. Same envy pattern, lighter in tone.

سنگ بزرگ نشانه نزدنه

سنگ بزرگ نشانه نزدنه (sang-e bozorg neshâne-ye nazadan-ast): “a big stone is a sign of not throwing.” When the threat is too big to actually deliver, it is a sign nothing will happen.

بی‌بی

بی‌بی (bibi) is the affectionate Persian term for grandma, also a respectful term of address for an older woman.

نواده (navâde) means “great-grandchild.” Built from نوه (nave) plus a diminutive suffix.

نوه (nave) means “grandchild” in Persian. Gender-neutral, used for both grandsons and granddaughters.

بنفش

بنفش (banafsh) means “purple, violet.” Named after the violet flower بنفشه (banafsheh).
