What it means
دلداری (deldâri) is heart-comforting, the practice of consoling someone whose heart is heavy. The verb form is deldâri dâdan (to give comfort).
How to use it
- بهش دلداری دادم (behesh deldâri dâdam) “I comforted him/her”
- دلداری دادن سخته (deldâri dâdan sakhte) “Giving comfort is hard”
- به دلداری احتیاج دارم (be deldâri ehtiyâj dâram) “I need comforting”
Cultural depth
Deldâri is the social duty of close circles after a death, divorce, or job loss. At a funeral home (behesht-e zahra in Tehran), the line of mourners exists to give deldâri to the bereaved family one by one.

Neutral, used by all ages. Said with a soft tone, never breezily. Often paired with hugs, hand-holding, sitting in silence.
Etymology
Pure Persian compound: دل (del, heart) + داری (dâri, holding or keeping), from the verb dâshtan. Built on the same pattern as nokhostvazirdâri (premiership) where -dâri abstracts an action.
