تسلی
/ tasalli /
noun · consolation
Meaning
معنی۱
Iranian mourning culture has a rich vocabulary for what the bereaved person needs and what visitors give them. Tasalli is what you offer when you sit beside someone who has lost a parent, a child, a friend. It is not a quick "sorry for your loss" handshake. It is the act of staying, of being present, of saying things the bereaved can hold onto. Standard tasalli phrases include خدا رحمتش کنه (khodâ rahmatesh kone, may God have mercy on them), تسلیت میگم (tasliyat migam, I offer condolences), and the longer غم آخرتون باشه (ghame âkharetun bâshe, may this be your last sorrow).
