In Persian it functions as an adjective (یه موضوع ترندینگ, “a trending topic”) and sometimes as a stand-alone noun (ترندینگ رو ببین, “look at the trending section”). Native Persian alternatives include داغ (dâgh, literally “hot,” used colloquially for “trending”), پرطرفدار (por-tarfadâr, “popular”), and روز (ruz, “of the day”), but ترندینگ is the default word for Gen-Z Iranians speaking about social media specifically.

Iranian content creators closely track what is ترندینگ and often produce reactive content within the same day to capture algorithmic momentum, a practice sometimes called سوار موج شدن (savâr-e mowj shodan), “riding the wave.”
