خوشبختی

The shape of the word reveals the Iranian frame around happiness. خوشبختی is bound up with بخت (bakht), fate. Hafez writes about بخت constantly: the wheel that turns, the lot you draw at birth, the divine sortition you cannot override with hard work. Self-help books in Persian translate "the pursuit of happiness" as تعقیب خوشبختی (ta'qib-e khosh-bakhti), but the phrase reads slightly off in Persian, because pursuing your fate is a paradox.
