سرچ کردن pronounced by Elyar

What it means

سرچ کردن (serch kardan) is the casual Persian compound verb for searching online, usually on Google or another search engine. The verb covers the whole action: typing a query, hitting enter, scrolling through results. Persian also has جستجو کردن (jostoju kardan, to search) and پیدا کردن (peydâ kardan, to find) for the same field, but سرچ کردن owns the everyday online register. If you mean googled it, you say سرچ کردم.

Compound verb structure

Noun + کردن. سرچ is invariant. The thing being searched usually attaches with no preposition or with دنبال (donbâl, after): دنبال یه رستوران سرچ کردم (donbâl ye restorân serch kardam, I searched for a restaurant). Equally common: یه چیزی سرچ می‌کنم (ye chizi serch mikonam, let me search something).

  • Present continuous: دارم سرچ می‌کنم (dâram serch mikonam)
  • Past: سرچ کردم (serch kardam)
  • Imperative: سرچ کن (serch kon)
  • Negative: سرچ نکن (serch nakon)

How it gets used

esm-e film-o sard kardam, video-sh oomad.

I searched the name of the film, the video showed up.

اسم فیلمو سرچ کردم، ویدیوش اومد.

sabr kon, sarch konam bebinam koja-st.

Wait, let me search where it is.

صبر کن، سرچ کنم ببینم کجاست.

har soâli dâri faqat google sarch kon.

Whatever question you have, just google it.

هر سوالی داری فقط گوگل سرچ کن.

Where it comes from

English search, naturalized through the rise of Google and Persian-language web habits in the 2000s. جستجو کردن is the Pure Persian alternative and remains alive in formal contexts (libraries, academic search, official government search bars). سرچ کردن is what real people say to each other about real screens. The two coexist without friction; one is the resume word, the other is the kitchen-table word.

Register and feel

A1 vocabulary, colloquial. Iranians of every age search dozens of times a day, and the loan is faster to say than جستجو کردن. Older speakers and formal writers will pick the Pure Persian word; everyone else will not.
