What it means
پذیرفتن (paziruftan) means to accept, to receive, to admit, or to acknowledge. It is a pure Persian verb built on the root پذیر (pazir, receptive), a classical formation found throughout Old and Middle Iranian. In modern usage, پذیرفتن appears most often in formal writing, academic contexts, official statements, and educated spoken Persian. In everyday colloquial speech, قبول کردن (qabul kardan) carries the same meaning and is far more common.

Cultural note
In Iranian academic and institutional language, پذیرش (pazirash), the noun form of this verb, is the standard word for university admission and hospital intake, and پذیرش دانشجو (pazirash-e dâneshju) is how university enrollment is officially described. The strong preference for پذیرفتن over the Arabic-origin قبول کردن in formal registers reflects the influence of the Pure Persian Movement (Farhangestan) on official and journalistic writing, even though ordinary speakers overwhelmingly default to قبول کردن in conversation.
