What it means
انجام (anjâm) is a native Persian noun meaning performance, completion, or the act of carrying something out. It derives from the Persian verb انجامیدن (anjâmidan, to end or result) and is fully embedded across all registers, appearing across all registers from formal writing to everyday speech. The compound verb انجام دادن (anjâm dâdan), literally “to give completion,” is the all-purpose Persian equivalent of English “to do” or “to carry out” when referring to tasks, duties, and assignments. A related noun شده is used in the passive: کار انجام شد (kâr anjâm shod, the work was done). The word does not carry a sense of emotional urgency; it is neutral and transactional, describing the simple fact of completing an action.

- کارمو انجام دادم (kâr-am ro anjâm dâdam) “I did my work.”
- این کار رو چطور انجام بدم؟ (in kâr ro chetour anjâm bedam?) “How should I carry out this task?”
- وظیفهات رو انجام بده (vazife-at ro anjâm bede) “Do your duty.”
- کارا هنوز انجام نشده (kârâ hanuz anjâm nashodeh) “The tasks haven’t been done yet.”
Cultural note
In Iranian work culture and education, انجام دادن is the standard phrasing for assigning and reporting tasks. A teacher says «تکلیف رو انجام بده» (do the homework) and a manager says «پروژه رو انجام بده» (carry out the project). The word implies accountability and follow-through, and leaving a task انجام نشده (undone) is seen as a failure of responsibility. This makes انجام one of the most frequently heard verbs in professional and academic Persian.
