سوز
/ suz /
noun · burning (poetic)
Meaning
معنی۱
The same word covers the cold burning of winter wind in some compounds (سوز سرما), so سوز is fire and frost at once: anything that burns the body or the heart. Rumi, Hafez, and Saadi all push the word toward divine longing; modern songwriters keep using it because no other Persian word delivers the same wound-and-warmth at once. In Sufi poetry, سوز is what proves love is real. A heart that doesn't burn is a heart that didn't love. The pairing with گداز (gudâz, "melting") completes the image: first you burn, then you dissolve into what you were burning for.
