Setâd's original capital came from property seizures. After 1979 the new state confiscated the assets of Iranians who fled the country (often from religious minorities, often without legal process), of Bahá'ís whose property was seized on the doctrinal claim that Bahá'ís are not legitimate owners, of supposed "anti-revolutionary" estates, and of "abandoned" or "ownerless" properties whose owners were dead, exiled, or imprisoned.
