What it means
احراز هویت (ehrâz-e hoviyyat) refers to the process of verifying that a person is who they claim to be, whether through a password, biometric scan, one-time code, or official document check. The word احراز comes from the Arabic root ح-ر-ز (h-r-z), which carries the sense of securing, proving, or obtaining with certainty. The word هویت comes from the Arabic هوية, meaning identity or selfhood. Together they form a formal administrative and technical term used in banking apps, government portals, and cybersecurity contexts. The more colloquial shorthand تایید هویت (tâyid-e hoviyyat, identity confirmation) is sometimes used interchangeably, though احراز هویت is the standard term in formal and legal Persian.
How to use it
- برای فعالسازی حساب، باید احراز هویت انجام بدید. (barâye fa’âlsâzi-ye hesâb, bâyad ehrâz-e hoviyyat anjâm bedid.) “To activate your account, you must complete identity verification.”

Iran’s national identity verification infrastructure, including the کد ملی (national ID code) system, makes احراز هویت a mandatory step in virtually every official digital transaction. The term also appears prominently in cybersecurity discussions in Persian-language tech media, where two-factor authentication is called احراز هویت دو مرحلهای.
