بهش

Persian is unusual among major languages for having no grammatical gender. Both "he" and "she" are او (u) in writing, ش (-esh) in spoken pronominal suffixes. Translating بهش گفتم into English forces a choice between "him" and "her" that the original sentence simply does not make. Heritage learners often miss this and assume Persian leaves the gender out by accident, when in fact the language has never tracked it in the first place. Embrace the ambiguity; let context carry the work English does with pronouns. The same neutrality runs through every part of the language, from possessives (کتابش, "his/her book") to subjects (او رفت, "he/she went"), and learners who internalize this early stop reaching for clarifying tags that native speakers do not use. The fused بهش also feels rhythmically tighter than the formal pair, which is part of why spoken Persian moves at the pace it does.
