What it means
بازار (bâzâr) means “market” or “bazaar.” It refers both to a traditional covered Persian market with rows of small shops and to a marketplace in any sense, literal or economic.
A word that travelled
بازار is one of those Persian words that crossed into English directly. The word is pure Persian, attested in Middle Persian as wāzār. Through trade routes it entered Turkish, Arabic, French, and English with the same form and meaning. When you say “bazaar” in English, you are using the same word an Iranian uses every day.
