سیاه

In Iran, black is the color of mourning. After a death in the family, relatives wear سیاه for forty days, sometimes longer for a parent or spouse. The practice is called سیاه‌پوشی (siyâh-pûshi). There is no Iranian equivalent of the Western tradition of wearing white at funerals: the dress code at Iranian funerals, memorial gatherings (مجلس ختم, majles-e khatm), and ashura processions is overwhelmingly black. Mothers who lost a son in the Iran-Iraq war (مادران شهدا, mâdarân-e shohadâ) often kept wearing siyâh for the rest of their lives.
