Iranian poetry treats آرام as a mystic state. Hafez writes about آرامش (ârâmesh, "peace of mind") as something the soul searches for. Modern Iranians use the noun form constantly: آرامش lives in song titles, on bumper stickers, in funeral condolences (روحش در آرامش, ruhash dar ârâmesh, "may his soul be in peace"). The word holds both an everyday meaning and a deep one. When an Iranian elder tells you ârâm bâsh, they may mean "slow down," or "breathe," or "trust the universe."
