What it means
امنیت سایبری (amniyyat-e sâybari) means “cybersecurity,” the practice of protecting computers, networks, and data from digital attacks. امنیت comes from the Arabic root amn, meaning safety or security, and entered Persian through Arabic. سایبری adapts the English word “cyber” by adding the Persian adjectival suffix -i, making it a cross-origin compound. The term is used in both professional IT contexts and everyday news coverage whenever data breaches, ransomware, or online fraud are discussed.

- امنیت سایبری برای شرکتا خیلی مهمه. (amniyyat-e sâybari barâye sherkathâ kheyli mohemme.) “Cybersecurity is very important for companies.”
- دوره امنیت سایبری رو گذروندم. (dowre-ye amniyyat-e sâybari ro gozarundam.) “I completed a cybersecurity course.”
- حمله سایبری به سایتشون شده. (hamle-ye sâybari be sâiteshun shode.) “Their website was hit by a cyberattack.”
- باید رمزت رو برای امنیت سایبری عوض کنی. (bâyad ramzat ro barâye amniyyat-e sâybari avaz koni.) “You need to change your password for cybersecurity.”
Cultural note
Iran has invested heavily in domestic cybersecurity infrastructure since the Stuxnet incident of 2010, and the term امنیت سایبری appears constantly in state media, technology news, and university curricula. The Iranian government operates the Cyber Police (فتا), and awareness campaigns around passwords, phishing, and data protection use this term widely. As a result, even non-technical Iranians encounter امنیت سایبری regularly and understand its general meaning.
