ابرو
/ abru /
noun · eyebrow (poetic)
Meaning
معنی۱
Iranian beauty conventions across many centuries placed strong emphasis on the eyebrows. In Qajar-era miniatures and portraits, both men's and women's eyebrows are drawn thick and sometimes joined across the bridge of the nose, called ابروی پیوسته (abru-ye peyvaste, joined eyebrow), which was a marked beauty ideal of the period. Modern Iranian beauty practice has moved away from joined eyebrows but still places great care on shape. The eyebrow remains a culturally loaded feature, and the poetic register of ابرو as the bow of the beloved still flickers behind any modern song or film line that lingers on the face.
