Superprof is a tutor marketplace with a strong European presence. It connects learners with local and online tutors across hundreds of subjects, including Persian. The platform claims 92% student satisfaction. Tutors set their own rates and first lessons are often free. The tutor pool for Persian varies by city.

My 3 Trial Lessons

Lesson 1 ($15/hr): A heritage speaker with no formal teaching background. Friendly conversation practice but zero structure. She couldn't explain grammar rules when I asked. Fine for speaking practice, not for learning.

Lesson 2 ($28/hr): An Iranian teacher with a TEFL certification adapted for Farsi. Good balance of conversation and grammar. She used her own materials with exercises and vocabulary lists. Consistent quality.

Lesson 3 ($40/hr): A university lecturer. Very structured, very academic. Homework, quizzes, formal register. Perfect for exam prep. Too rigid for casual learners who want to chat about daily life.

Platform Pros

The first-lesson-free policy is a genuine advantage. You can try 3-4 tutors with zero financial risk before committing. The European tutor network means better timezone coverage for EU-based learners. Superprof also facilitates in-person tutoring, which is rare among online-first platforms.

Platform Cons

Tutor vetting is minimal. Anyone can list themselves as a Persian tutor. Quality varies dramatically, and the review system is less robust than italki or Verbling. The messaging system can feel spammy, with tutors who haven't responded in months still showing as "available." The platform takes a subscription fee from students for unlimited messaging.

Superprof works best for European learners who want in-person tutoring or timezone-friendly online lessons. The free first lesson removes the risk of trying tutors. But the inconsistent quality control means you'll need to kiss some frogs. Use the free trials to find a good match, then stick with them.
