What the Course Covers

Loecsen is a free multilingual phrase course with a Persian option. It covers travel essentials: greetings, numbers, directions, restaurant ordering, emergencies. Each phrase comes with audio pronunciation, transliteration, and a quiz feature. The structure is topic-based rather than grammar-based.

What Works

The audio-per-phrase approach is useful for pronunciation checking. Every single phrase has a native speaker recording, which is more than many free resources offer. The quiz feature adds basic interactivity. For pre-trip prep, the topical organization (hotel, restaurant, transportation) is practical.

What Doesn't Work

This isn't a Persian course. It's a general phrase app that happens to have a Persian language option. The phrases are identical across all 40+ languages Loecsen offers, which means there's zero Persian-specific content. No Tarof, no colloquial forms, no script teaching, no grammar at all.

You'll learn to say "Where is the train station?" (kodjâ ist-gâh-e ghatar ast?) but you won't understand the answer. Phrase memorization without grammar is a party trick, not language learning. The content stops at the most basic tourist level.

Who This Course Is For

Tourists who want 50 survival phrases before a trip. People testing whether Persian sounds appeal to them before investing in real learning. Nobody serious about actually learning the language.

The Verdict

Loecsen gives you a phrasebook with audio. That's it. No grammar, no script, no culture, no progression beyond tourist phrases. It's free, it's quick, and it fills exactly one need: hearing how basic Persian phrases sound. If that's all you want, fine. If you want to learn Persian, look elsewhere.
