What it means
ترکیه (Torkiye) is the Persian name for the Republic of Turkey, borrowed directly from the Turkish self-designation “Türkiye,” which means the land of the Turks. The base word «ترک» (Tork) has deep roots in Persian literature, where it historically referred to Turkic peoples of Central Asia. The suffix “-iye” is a Turkic place-forming element. Turkey is Iran’s western neighbour, and ترکیه appears constantly in news, travel conversation, and trade talk. The adjective is «ترکیهای» (Torkiyeyi) or more commonly «ترک» (Tork) when referring to things or people from Turkey.

Cultural note
Turkey is one of the most visited foreign destinations for Iranians, with Istanbul especially popular for tourism, shopping, and medical travel. Turkish television series dubbed in Persian have built a large audience across Iran over the past two decades, to the point where Turkish actors are household names. Iran and Turkey share a long border and centuries of intertwined history, including the Safavid-Ottoman rivalry that shaped much of the early modern Middle East.
