تنهایی

تنهایی is the central key of modern Persian poetry. Forough Farrokhzâd's poems return to it again and again, the loneliness of a woman in Tehran in the 1950s and 60s. Sohrab Sepehri uses it as a contemplative state, the solitude that lets you hear بوی خوش گندم (bu-ye khosh-e gandam) "the good smell of wheat." Ahmad Shâmlu writes تنهایی as the condition of the poet under censorship.
