For decades, working-class Tehrani families slept on flat rooftops in تابستان to escape indoor heat. Mid-summer brings چله‌ی تابستان (the forty-day peak), the hottest stretch from late July. Watermelon (هندوانه) and yogurt-mint drinks (دوغ) define the season’s table.
