What it means

رسید (resid) is a native Persian word, formed from the past stem of رسیدن (residan), meaning to arrive or to reach. As a noun it means receipt: the document confirming that money or goods have been received. It is distinct from فاکتور (fâktor), which is an itemized invoice requesting payment before it is made. A رسید comes after the transaction; a فاکتور comes before or during. The word is used in shops, banks, post offices, and online transactions alike.

How to use it

  • رسید پرداختتو نگه دار. (Resid-e pardâkhto negah dâr.) “Keep your payment receipt.”
  • می‌تونی رسید بانکی بهم بدی؟ (Mituni resid-e bânki beham bedi?) “Can you give me the bank receipt?”
  • بدون رسید نمی‌شه مرجوع کرد. (Bedun-e resid nemishe marjû kard.) “You can’t return it without a receipt.”
  • رسید حواله رو از دستگاه گرفتم. (Resid-e havâle ro az dastgâh gereftam.) “I got the transfer receipt from the machine.”

Cultural note

Iranians are accustomed to requesting and keeping رسید for almost every transaction, from utility payments to bank transfers to bazaar purchases. ATMs, bank counters, and online payment gateways all issue a رسید automatically. In disputes over payments, the رسید is the primary evidence: the phrase “رسیدشو داری؟” (do you have the receipt?) is one of the first questions asked in any payment disagreement. Digital receipts sent via SMS are now standard for most bank transactions in Iran.
