Cultural depth
Qadr-shenâsi (the noun form) is a high virtue in Iranian family ethics. Parents say it of children who remember sacrifices made for them. The opposite, nâ-qadr-shenâs (ungrateful), is one of the deeper disappointments a parent can express.
Etymology
Hybrid compound: Arabic qadr (قدر, worth, value, measure) plus Persian -shenâs (knower, recognizer), from the verb shenâkhtan (to know, to recognize). The same -shenâs builds words like zabân-shenâs (linguist) and rovân-shenâs (psychologist).
