What it means

اکی (oki) means “OK,” “got it,” or “alright.” It is the dominant colloquial spelling in Persian texting and casual chat. The vowel is short, the tone is relaxed.

How to use it

  • اکی، می‌بینمت (oki, mibinamet) “OK, see you”
  • اکی بابا، فهمیدم (oki bâbâ, fahmidam) “OK fine, I got it”
  • اکی پس (oki pas) “OK then”

How it entered Persian

“OK” entered Persian through global English in the 20th century but the texting-friendly spelling اکی took off after 2005 with SMS culture and later Telegram. Some writers also use اوکی (owki) with an extra vowel, but اکی is more common in messaging.

Cultural note

Saying اکی to your boss or an elder reads as flippant. Use باشه (bâshe) or چشم (cheshm) instead in respectful contexts. Among friends, classmates, and on social media, اکی is everywhere, often softened with بابا or پس.
