نامحرم

The whole logic of Islamic modesty rests on the mahram / nâmahram split. Inside the mahram circle, dress is relaxed. Outside it, in nâmahram space, the hijab covers hair and body, physical contact is avoided, private one-on-one settings are discouraged. The rule book is the same Quranic verse (24:31) that defines mahram by listing exceptions.
