What it means
مذاکره صلح (mozâkere-ye solh) means peace negotiation, mediation talks, or a formal process aimed at resolving a conflict. Both words come from Arabic: مذاکره (mozâkere) is from the root ذ-ك-ر (dh-k-r, to mention or confer together), and صلح (solh) is from ص-ل-ح (s-l-h, to be righteous, to make peace). Together they form the standard phrase for diplomatic or civil negotiation aimed at ending a dispute. مذاکره alone simply means negotiation or talks, while صلح alone means peace or settlement. A close synonym phrase is گفتگوی صلح (goftegu-ye solh), meaning peace dialogue, which sounds slightly softer and less formal.

Cultural note
The concept of صلح carries moral weight in Persian and Islamic culture beyond its political sense. Islam places great value on ایجاد صلح (ejâd-e solh), making peace between disputing parties, and community elders in Iranian society traditionally act as mediators, called میانجی (miyânji), to resolve family or neighbourhood disputes without involving courts. In a legal context, parties in civil cases can reach a صلح and settlement that closes the case, a process actively encouraged by Iranian judges to reduce court backlogs. The word مذاکره rose to international prominence in Persian public discourse during the nuclear talks of the 2010s.
