مبل

What it means

مبل (mobl) means “sofa,” “armchair,” or upholstered furniture in general. It can name a single armchair or, more often in speech, the whole matching set of living-room seating (مبلمان or دست مبل). A کاناپه is a specific couch-style sofa, while مبل is the broader everyday word for the padded chairs and sofas in a sitting room.

Cultural note

Many Iranian homes keep a formal مبل set in the guest room (پذیرایی) reserved for visitors, sometimes kept under covers, while the family relaxes on floor cushions or a casual مبل راحتی in another room. A new دست مبل is a common big purchase for newlyweds setting up a home.
