کمد

What it means

کمد (komod) means “wardrobe,” “cabinet,” or “dresser,” a freestanding storage piece with doors, shelves, or drawers. It most often refers to the bedroom wardrobe where clothes are kept (کمد لباس), but the word also covers a kitchen or bathroom cabinet. A built-in closet may be called کمد دیواری (wall cabinet), and the pull-out compartments inside are کشو (drawers).

How to use it

• لباسا رو بذار تو کمد (lebâs-â ro bezâr tu komod) “put the clothes in the wardrobe”
• در کمد رو ببند (dar-e komod ro beband) “close the wardrobe door”
• کمد دیواری (komod-e divâri) “built-in wall closet”
• کمدم پره (komod-am pore) “my wardrobe is full”

Cultural note

In homes without large built-in closets, a freestanding کمد is the main place clothes and linens are stored, and a matching کمد is a standard part of a bedroom set bought for a new household. Seasonal swaps, putting winter clothes away in spring, often mean a big reorganization of the کمد.
