مشتی

What it means

مشتی (mashti) is a friendly address and compliment, close to “dude,” “bro,” or “a solid, cool guy.” It comes from مشهدی (one who made the pilgrimage to Mashhad), an old honorific, and is tied to the داش‌مشتی tradition of the honour-bound urban tough guy.

How to use it

• سلام مشتی، چطوری؟ (salâm mashti, chetori?) “Hey bro, how are you?”
• این آدم خیلی مشتیه (in âdam kheyli mashti-ye) “This guy is really solid and cool.”
• مشتی، یه کمک می‌خوام (mashti, ye komak mikhâm) “Dude, I need a hand.”
• دمت گرم مشتی (damet garm mashti) “You are a legend, man.”

Cultural note

Informal and warm, traditionally between men. It signals respect and street credibility, carrying an echo of the old code-of-honour لوطی figure.
