من

Iranians often skip من when speaking, because verb endings already mark the subject. Saying من on every sentence sounds emphatic, sometimes self-centered. In humble registers, especially around elders or authority figures, speakers replace من with بنده (bande) to signal respect: "بنده اومدم" (bande umadam) means "I have come" with the speaker positioning themselves below the listener. This is one of the few honorific moves in modern spoken Persian that still survives in everyday speech, especially in bureaucratic or religious contexts. The reverse pronoun for the listener is شما (shomâ) plus a special set of honorific verbs.
