What it means
جغرافیا (joghrâfiyâ) is the Persian word for geography, both as a school subject and as an academic discipline. The word originates in Greek: geographia (geo meaning earth, graphia meaning writing or description). It entered Persian through Arabic jughrāfiyā, keeping its form largely intact. In school, جغرافیا covers physical landforms, climate, maps, and human settlements.
