جانم
/ janam /
interjection · my dear
Meaning
معنی۱
Built from جان (jân, "soul, life") + the possessive suffix م (-am, "my"). Replying جانم؟ to a call is a small daily ritual of warmth that even non-Persian speakers notice on first hearing it. Some Iranian families teach children that responding چیه؟ (chiye?, "what?") to a parent is rude, you should say جانم؟ Even strangers may use it. The phrase جانم برایت بگم (literally "let my soul tell you") is a casual storytelling intro.
