What it means
ارتفاع (ertefâ) means “altitude” or “elevation,” the height of a place or object above a reference level, most commonly above sea level. The word is borrowed from Arabic, built on the root ر-ف-ع (r-f-‘, meaning to raise or lift), with the Arabic noun pattern i-ti-fâ’ expressing an abstract quality. In aviation, ارتفاع is the standard term for flight altitude. In geography and hiking it refers to the elevation of a mountain pass or summit. The everyday synonym بلندی (bolandi) is more colloquial and means height or tallness in a broader sense.
