دخترعمو

دخترعمو and پسرعمو are the most-discussed cousin marriage pairing in Iranian culture. In traditional patrilineal families, a young man marrying his father's brother's daughter is the classic intra-family match: it keeps property within the patrilineal line, reinforces ties between brothers, and was historically arranged by the elder generation. There is even a folk saying that دخترعمو "belongs to" پسرعمو (the older formulation, from a different era of attitudes), reflecting an inheritance and matchmaking pattern that was once close to default in some regions.
