From Arabic الله (Allāh), widely held to be a contraction of al-ilāh ("the god, the deity"). It appears in the شهادتین (shahâdatayn, declarations of faith). In casual Iranian speech, خدا dominates, Iranians say خدا حافظ (khodâ hâfez, "God protect, goodbye") not الله حافظ. The phrase ان شاء الله (en-shâ'-allâh) is a very common everyday use of الله, deployed for any future plan: "tomorrow we will go, en-shâ'-allâh."
