What Works

The coverage is genuinely comprehensive for one book. You get alphabet instruction, grammar from basic to intermediate, reading passages, and conversation practice. At ~$30, it's one of the best value propositions in Persian textbooks. The Teach Yourself series knows how to structure a self-study course, and it shows.

The grammar explanations balance accessibility with accuracy. You won't need a linguistics degree to follow along, but the explanations don't oversimplify either. The reading passages use real-world topics that keep the material interesting.

What Doesn't Work for Persian Learners

The "complete" in the title oversells what one book can do. By the end, you're at B1 territory. That's good, but it won't get you to fluency. The exercises are adequate but not abundant. You'll want supplementary practice.

Like most Teach Yourself books, the pacing can feel uneven. Some chapters introduce too much new material at once, while others feel like padding. The audio quality is functional but not as polished as Persian of Iran Today's multimedia package.
