Persian schoolbooks list seven or eight named tenses, and high-schoolers memorize tables for each one. In casual Tehrani speech, the present continuous (دارم می‌روم) and the simple past dominate, while the subjunctive shows up everywhere requests, hopes, and politeness need a softer edge.
