What it means
قالب کیک (qâleb-e kek) means a cake tin, a baking pan used to shape and bake cakes. The first element قالب (qâleb) comes from Arabic, where the root means a mold or form into which something is poured or pressed, and this word is widely used in Persian for any kind of mold or template. The second element کیک (kek) is borrowed from English “cake” and entered Persian through 20th-century culinary influence. The compound names specifically the metal or silicone pan used for baking. A related term is ظرف پخت (zarf-e pokht), a baking dish in a more general sense.
How to use it

- این قالب کیک گرد هست یا مستطیله؟ (in qâleb-e kek gerd hast yâ mostateliye?) “Is this cake tin round or rectangular?”

Cultural note
Home baking became widespread in Iran during the mid-20th century as Western-style pastry shops and cookbooks introduced layered cakes alongside traditional Persian sweets. Today, home bakers across Iran prepare cakes for birthdays, Nowruz, and tea gatherings, and the قالب کیک is a standard item in most kitchens. Classic Persian-style cakes such as کیک یزدی (kek-e yazdi) and کیک شیفون (kek-e shifon) each have their preferred pan shapes. Specialty baking stores in Tehran’s bazaars stock dozens of قالب کیک shapes, from simple rounds to elaborate Bundt designs.
