پری

The pari is older than Islam in Iran. In Avestan texts the pairikās were ambiguous spirits, sometimes harmful, sometimes seductive. Persian poetry softened them into pure beauty. The shift is one example of how classical poets reshaped pre-Islamic mythology into the imagery of love.
