کیف

کیف is a clear Arabic loanword: in Arabic كيف means "how, in what manner," and by extension "pleasure, well-being." Persian borrowed the noun and quietly attached it to the physical object you carry your stuff in. The Arabic-origin pleasure sense survived only in idioms, of which کیف کردن (kif kardan) "to enjoy, to take pleasure in" and کیفم کوکه are the most common. The phrase کیفم کوکه is distinctively Tehrani: a mid-century slang formation that pictures your inner state as a tuned musical instrument. Use it with friends, never in formal writing.
