What it means
جوانی (javâni) means “youth” as a life stage. Built from جوان (javân) “young” plus the abstract noun suffix ـی. Covers roughly ages 18 to 35.

- دوران جوانی (dowrân-e javâni) “the years of youth”
- در جوانی (dar javâni) “in one’s youth”
- جوانیام را گذراندم (javâni-am râ gozarândam) “I spent my youth”
When this stage falls
Roughly 18 to 35. The Iranian mileposts: starting university (or sarbâzi, military service, for men), graduation, first job, marriage, first child. Marriage typically happens late 20s to early 30s in urban Iran. Javâni ends fuzzily, usually when someone has a stable career, owns a home, and has young kids of their own.
Cultural note
Javâni is the most romanticized stage in Persian culture. Half the classical pop songbook is about lost javâni. Older relatives say “قدر جوانیت رو بدون” (qadr-e javâni-t ro bedun) “appreciate your youth” the way Americans say “these are the best years.” The nostalgia is deep and somewhat performative.
