What it means
هنرمند (honarmand) means an artist, artisan, or performer: any person with skill and mastery in a creative field. The word is formed from two pure Persian elements: هنر (honar, meaning skill or art, from Middle Persian hunar) and the suffix مند (-mand, meaning “possessing” or “endowed with”). It applies broadly to painters, musicians, actors, sculptors, and craftspeople. A close synonym is هنرپیشه (honarpisheh), which specifically refers to an actor or stage performer.

Cultural note
In Persian culture, هنر carries a deep sense of moral and spiritual excellence, not only technical skill. Classical Persian literature often links هنر with virtue and inner refinement. Today, هنرمند is used in everyday speech to refer to any creative professional, and Iranian artists working in calligraphy, miniature painting, cinema, and music are held in high public regard.
