A2 — Elementary
What it means
فرم (form) means a form or document with blank fields you fill in. It entered Persian from French “forme” via the country’s early-20th-century administrative modernisation and is now completely standard in spoken and written Persian. You will hear it at every bank counter, government ministry, and hospital reception desk. A close related expression is فرم پر کردن (form por kardan), meaning to fill in a form.
How to use it
- این فرم رو پر کنید. (in form ro por konid.) “Please fill in this form.”
- فرم رو از کجا بگیرم؟ (form ro az koja begiram?) “Where do I get the form?”
- یه فرم درخواست لازم دارید. (ye form darkhast lazem darid.) “You need an application form.”
- فرم اشتباه پر کردم. (form eshtebah por kardam.) “I filled in the wrong form.”
Cultural note
In Iran, paper-based bureaucracy remains heavy, and the phrase “فرم بده” (form bede, hand over the form) is a refrain at public offices. Many government services still require physical forms even when an online portal exists. Knowing how to ask for, complete, and submit فرم correctly saves significant time at banks and ministries.
