Camp organized through the Kargozaran-e Sazandegi front (originally tied to Hashemi Rafsanjani), Hezb-e E'tedal va Towse'eh, and allied newspapers like Ettela'at and Hamshahri. Diplomatic apparatus housed in the foreign ministry under Mohammad Javad Zarif during 2013-2021.
E'tedal-gera bet the camp on the nuclear deal. When the deal collapsed in 2018 the bet collapsed with it. The camp had no second strategy, and the public memory of empty grocery shelves under Rouhani is the political ceiling it cannot climb past.

اعتدال گرا (e’tedal-gera), literally “moderation-oriented,” names the centrist political camp that emerged around Hassan Rouhani’s 2013 presidential campaign and governed Iran through the negotiation, signing, and US-led collapse of the 2015 nuclear deal. The camp positioned itself between reformists and hardliners, defended the JCPOA, and argued that the Republic’s survival depended on selective economic opening and diplomatic engagement. After Donald Trump withdrew the United States from the nuclear agreement in May 2018, the camp’s central political bet collapsed. Inflation surged, sanctions tightened, and the camp lost the 2020 parliamentary election badly and the 2021 presidential election decisively. E’tedal-gera retains some commentariat presence in newspapers like Ettela’at, but its parliamentary footprint has been hollowed out by Guardian Council disqualifications and by collapsed public trust in the diplomacy-first approach.
