Most of Iran is arid, and rain is genuinely valued, not complained about. After a downpour, you'll hear بارون رحمت (bârun-e rahmat) "rain of mercy." The northern Caspian provinces (Gilan, Mazandaran) are the wet exception, and locals there call themselves شمالی (shomâli) "northerners," raised in green forests where بارون is daily life rather than blessing.
