What it means
اسبابکشی (asbâb-keshi) means moving house or relocation. The word combines اسباب (asbâb), an Arabic-rooted plural meaning belongings or equipment, with کشی (keshi), a Persian verbal noun from کشیدن (kashidan) meaning to pull or drag. Together they describe the act of dragging all your possessions from one place to another. The verb form is اسبابکشی کردن (asbâb-keshi kardan), to move house. Iranians use this word for any residential move, from a small apartment shift to a full family relocation across cities. The process is notoriously exhausting, and the phrase اسبابکشی سخته (asbâb-keshi sakhte, moving is hard) reflects a widely shared experience.

Cultural note
Moving house in Iran often involves the whole family and close friends rather than professional movers, turning اسبابکشی into a social occasion. Neighbors may come to help carry furniture, and the new household traditionally marks the occasion by cooking or bringing food, sometimes making ash (آش) to share with helpers and neighbors as a way of blessing the new home and expressing gratitude.
