MyLanguageExchange.com has been connecting language partners since 2000. The platform offers text chat, voice chat rooms, and pen-pal matching for language exchange. The free tier lets you browse profiles; the Gold membership ($6/month) unlocks full messaging. The Persian community has been active for over two decades.

What Works

The established community means some users have been exchanging languages here for years. Long-term members tend to be serious about language learning. The structured lesson plans (provided on the site) give conversation exchanges some direction, which most exchange platforms lack entirely.

The voice chat rooms offer group conversation practice, which is different from one-on-one exchanges. Hearing multiple Persian speakers at different levels can be valuable for ear training.

Where It Falls Short

The platform feels ancient. The interface hasn't meaningfully updated in a decade. The paywall on messaging means you can't even start a conversation without paying, which kills the value proposition when Tandem and HelloTalk offer free messaging.

The Persian community, while established, is small. Active users number in the low hundreds globally. Response rates are lower than app-based platforms. The pen-pal format is slow compared to real-time app messaging.

MyLanguageExchange is a relic that still functions. The structured lesson plans are genuinely useful, but the paywall and dated interface make it hard to recommend when free, modern alternatives exist. Try Tandem and HelloTalk first. Come here if those don't work for you.
