Iranian astronomy has a long pedigree: the 11th-century Maragheh observatory and astronomers like Khayyam mapped stars centuries before Galileo. ستاره also carries fate weight in everyday speech. People say ستاره‌اش بلند است (his star is high) for someone whose luck is rising.
